South West Rocks Rally April 2013

The 23 members of the club (in 12 vans) who attended the rally at the Big 4 Park at SWR had a wonderful time, and left the park singing its praises as a great venue with outstanding facilities. Most chose to take advantage of the discount offer of $25 per night if the stay was for 4 nights or more (compared to $36 per night otherwise). It was also the first rally for new members, John and Barb Baker, who joined us on Sunday, and for another couple, Peter and Gay Bowen, who were hog-tied over the weekend and finally agreed to join us after suffering through three "happy hours" with us. A big welcome to these two lovely couples.

Although we had some rain, the rally leader had organized for most of it to fall overnight, so disruption to activities was minimal, and daytime conditions were excellent. Thanks be to Hughie ! One of the strangest occurrences was the massing of Coromal vans along one street- there were three members (Jollys, Moores and Townsends) all together, then we were joined by a fourth (next door to Townsends) and finally, a fifth one parked a couple of doors up from the Jollys. We had to christen the street Coromal Ave or Coromal Alley !  New member Peter even promised to buy a Coromal sticker to place over his Jayco decal !

Dinner on Sat night was a food- lover's delight (aren't they all?), with enough food to feed the 5000 ! Barbara created a pot of delicious pumpkin soup for starters, the mains were scrumptious, and the more-than-plentiful desserts rounded off a gastronomical extravaganza amid "oohs" and "aahs" and swapping of recipies. ( This gave rise to another great idea - the compilation of successful recipes into a book or folder at future rallies).

Of course, there will always be the odd disruptive element in any group and Wayndear started when he parked his van "off-centre " and refused to move it because that was where Bubbles had told him to leave it. ( And after all, he is the "perfect man" ! ).And then Jollybob had to find an alternative to Edith's "devils on horseback" ( a prune wrapped in bacon, on a toothpick - delicious !!)- so he used a toothpick to skewer a couple of kangaroo nuggets and proceeded to invite others to partake ! Then there was Faye who claimed that because she had "inadvertently" left her curtains open, someone was likely to take photos of her in her nightly (nighty ?) ritual of cooking her tea. ( There are those who suggested that she left them open on purpose !) But, overall, the members behaved themselves, and still managed to have a really good time.
