Roving Dam Rally ( Stage 1 ) - Lake Liddell Reserve.

The first Day of the Roving Dam Rally presented the five caravans at Lake Liddell witth a windy introduction to the Rotunda, but as our vans were parked around the perimeter we were given some protection from the gusty winds. Unfortunately the lake has been closed to recreatonal water activities but if it hadn't it would have been anideal surfing afternoon with wind induced choppy surface. On the scond day the winds had abated somewhat and our members most of whom were attending Lake Liddell for the first time were enjoying the lake, birdlife, kangaroos and the resident peacocks and the local Chernoble - Lake Liddell Power station off in the distance. Carmel (and Dave ) caught up with numerous relatives and friends on this stage as well as later stages, while other embers visited nearby Muswellbrook, Denman and surrounding areas such as Jerry's Plains. Our communal feast on Thursday evening could have fed the Singleton Army Barracks as well as our group of members - than you to all who attended and provided us with a fine selection of scrumptious vittles. And the weather also chipped in by providing a beautiful sunset and twilight for our group dinner. As the sun set in the west the lights from the power station took over to provide a pleasant backdrop (despite a few trees partially blocking our view). The following morning Annette providing morning tea. Advising us that the Maple Syrup Butter was definately low calorie! Thanks Annette. The following saw us all enthusiastically head off to enjoy stage two of the Roving Dam Rally. As first time Rally Leaders, Annette an I would like to pass on our appreciation and a big THANK YOU to everyone who attended not only the Lake Liddell stage of the rally but to all who attended the overall rally. From our perspective, the overall Roving Dam Rally was a huge success and we look forward to our club to hopefully arranging similar rallies into the future. Cheers ......... Jeff Prigg.

Roving DAM Rally Stage 2. All participants managed to find their way to Split Rock Dam (free camp) with a change of venue on the move. The weather behaved reasonably well ,only the usual afternoon thunder storms. Sunday nights BAKED DINNER was well received many thanks to the MKR. COOKS ?? Unfortunately not all availed the scenery and sites around Barraba, which was the Asbestos capitol of Australia in the 1970s--80s until it fell out of favor. Barraba is a vibrant agricultural centre ie; wheat ,wool and cattle. A short journey of 150--160 k found us at Copeton Dam, passing through Barraba, Bingara following the Gwyder River through Kera Station which is the home of Aberdeen Angus cattle in Australia.
Dam Rally Report 3rd Leg Unfortunately Maureen and I were not able to do the first 2 legs of the Dam Rally due to prior commitments which was disappointing considering our past experiences with the areas. The 3rd leg was also at an old stamping ground we frequently visited when we resided in the area. The weather was very kind to us and we were lucky we were inland and not on the Coast which received a lot bad weather and rain. Copeton Dam is a great venue with plenty of room and lots of wildlife. Five vans made the effort to do the trip. The evening main meal was Casseroles and Damper as well as Apple Crumble and Impossible Pie. As usual the meal was delicious and plenty to spare. The Damper was an experiment cooking it in a Baby Q in two different ways and another setup for the Apple Crumble which all turned out very delicious. Those who were game had a go at golf on a fairly rough bush course which hadn’t seen much maintenance for a while. We all had fun even though it took over 2 hours to play 4 holes. The winners with the highest scores were Annette and Maureen. Thanks to those who contributed to meals and attending the rally. Bob and Maureen.
